Meet the Team · No. 02
Line work.
Tower work.
The job after.
Last time we said our training doesn’t stop at the certificate. Scotty is the reason that’s true.
Richard
Scott
Utility Program
Director
Nobody on site calls him Richard. Scotty is the director of our utility program, with oversight of the CDL course, line work, and the tower-related training that goes with it.
The less common part of his job is who he spends time with: faculty, parents of prospective students, the students themselves, and employers outside the school. Most training organizations hand someone a certificate and consider the work finished. Knowing which companies are hiring, for what, and what they actually want a new hire to be able to do on day one — that’s a separate job, and somebody has to do it.
Scotty works just as hard on the student experience, aiming for one that outpaces other programs. He and the team believe a successful employee starts with their training, and that belief runs through everything Scotty touches.
He’s also building the Tower Tech Program with employers in Michigan. It doesn’t exist yet. More on that when it does.
What Richard leads at AO
▸ Utility program oversight
▸ College collaboration: AOSS partners and non-partners working together for the student
▸ Employer relationships outside the school
▸ Building the future Tower Tech Program
A program nobody hires out of is just a class. Scotty makes sure ours isn’t.
Next up: Sebastian Cassell, Training Manager — Marine Corps, Journeyman Lineman, and the person in front of the room most days.
