Your community.
Your utility.
Your power.

Behind every light switch is a whole team. This week, we’re celebrating everyone at Michigan’s municipal utilities, the community-owned public power systems that keep your lights on.

Public Power Week 2026: Community powered

Happy Public Power Week, Michigan.

Every utility has crews working 24/7, making sure the lights are on no matter the day of the week, the temperature or the time of day… and that deserves a big thank-you.

It takes the whole team. Lineworkers out in the weather, operators at the substation or power plant, engineers, managers and the front office crew. Whatever the size of your utility, every one of you keeps the lights on.

This week, we’re saying thank you to every public power utility across the state, and giving a special shout-out to the ones who train with us.

The crew raising the safety bar.

To our 10+ safety partners: thank you. Your crews train with Alpha Omega, and your commitment is raising the standard across your whole public power family. It’s a pretty great group to be part of.

Public power is 140+ years old.

It got its start in Wabash, Indiana, in 1880. Michigan’s own utilities have been at it for well over a century. Here’s how long a few of our partners have been powering their hometowns.

Stronger together with MMEA.

The Michigan Municipal Electric Association stands behind Michigan’s public power utilities every day, and we’re proud to be part of that community.

Thank you, MMEA, for the opportunity to sponsor the opening keynote in Battle Creek on September 30.
